Winter Karzer
The first inmate of the winter Karzer in November 1911 was Walter Stegmüller (bottom left in the picture). As the University's 3,000th student and only a few months before his incarceration, he had been led through the city in a procession and presented with a golden watch. Since he also had the dubious honor of becoming the first resident of the winter Karzer, his fellow students called him "King of Chance" and hung a sash with this name on him.
During restoration work in the winter Karzer, fragments of crests and inmate scribbles were uncovered, including a poem written by Stegmaier on the occasion of his two anniversaries (procession and visit to the Karzer), which was previously only known from a small and long out-of-print manuscript.
